The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) offers the ability to make payments towards your balance through the CARM Client Portal. By accessing the portal, you can view your account balance, transaction history, and invoices. Payments can be made using the following options via the CARM portal:
- Credit card
- Credits
- Pre-authorized debit (PAD)
In addition to the CARM portal, you can make payments through your bank institution. To do so, add the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) as a payee and enter one of the RM account numbers associated with your payee.
If you prefer to pay by cheque, ensure you print your business number RM account on the back of your cheque. Then, send the Importer Advance Payment form to the following address:

It’s important to note that the Release Prior to Payment (RPP) 180-day transition period, which runs from October 21, 2024, to April 19, 2025, allows importers up to 180 calendar days to make their financial security arrangements to comply with the RPP program requirements.
The CARM system also uses a nudging framework to encourage real-time compliance with financial security requirements. When an RPP importer’s financial security usage is approaching or exceeding the set limit, the system will “nudge” the importer to either increase their posted financial security or apply a payment to reduce the outstanding balance.
