All importers and brokers of US meat:
In April 2011, the CFIA implemented an automated web tool, known as the Automated Shipment Inspection Status Search Tool, or ASISST, to aid the import community in identifying the inspection status of shipments containing US meat. As a result, the 1-877-682-5191 line to contact the CFIA Meat Import Control Centre (MICC) is no longer required for importers/brokers to obtain a shipment’s inspection status.
As of July 2, 2013, the existing toll free 1-877-682-5191 line will no longer be serviced. The ASISST web tool will continue to be available to check status and determine if a meat shipment requires a CFIA inspection. The ASISST tool can be accessed through the following link:
http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/imp/asissite.shtml
Please note that the status should be checked only after shipment is confirmed as having entered Canada. If you do not have access to the ASISST tool, or if your transaction is presented on a paper release, as of July 1, 2013, you will be directed to call the National Import Service Centre (NISC) at 1-800-835-4486 for assistance.
All meat importers and brokers are also encouraged to utilize the CFIA Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to present their meat shipments to the CFIA, as ASISST can be used only for those meat shipments presented for electronic release using the EDI.
