25 Per Cent Tariffs on Canadian Goods

The White House recently confirmed the implementation of 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods, effective Tuesday. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a series of counter-tariffs aimed at the United States.

As part of this countermeasure, the Canadian government will impose immediate tariffs on $30 billion worth of U.S. goods starting Tuesday, with plans to expand to $125 billion worth of American products within one month. However, U.S. tariffs will be on hold for 30 days following Canada’s commitment to beefing up border security.

The tariffs will impact a wide range of U.S. goods exported to Canada. Below is a summary of the affected items:

  • Agricultural Products: Poultry, meat, eggs, milk, cream, and dairy derivatives (including butter, cheese, and yogurt).
  • Fruits and Vegetables: Tomatoes, citrus fruits, melons, cherries, peaches, plums, apricots, and leguminous vegetables.
  • Grains and Cereals: Wheat, barley, oats, rye, rice, and meslin.
  • Spices and Extracts: Pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, saffron, turmeric, bay leaves, and vegetable saps.
